Wilma “Anne” Johnson

Wilma “Anne” Johnson, 86, of Reidsville, passed away unexpectedly following a sudden illness and went home to be with the Lord on Friday, September 4, 2026.

Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at Mt. Carmel Global Methodist Church, with Pastor Tim James officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Monday, September 7, 2026, at Wilkerson Funeral Home and other times at the home of her brother Andy Johnson.

Anne was born in Rockingham County, the daughter of the late Wilbur Nathaniel Johnson and Sarah Mabel Robertson Johnson. She attended Sadler Elementary School and graduated from Ruffin High School in 1957, where she was a star basketball player. She continued her education at the Woman’s College of the University of North Carolina, graduating in 1961 with a degree in history.

Anne devoted 30 years to teaching in the North Carolina public school system, serving students in both Rockingham and Guilford counties. Throughout her career, she left a lasting mark on countless young lives, helping to shape and encourage generations of students.

A talented vocalist, Anne also sang professionally with Burt Massengale’s orchestra, traveling and performing throughout the South and Mid-Atlantic.

Although Anne did not have children of her own, she loved her nieces, nephew, great-nieces, and great-nephews as her own children. She also dearly loved her nephew’s friends, whom she affectionately considered her adopted “boys.” They will have the honor of serving as her pallbearers. Anne was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.

In addition to her parents, Anne was preceded in death by her sister-in-law, Teresa Mundy Johnson.

She is survived by her brother, Andy Johnson; nephew, Lee Johnson and wife, Abby; nieces, Natalie Strittmatter and husband, Brian, and Sarah Canady and husband, Tim; great-nieces and great-nephews, Ryleigh Kate Johnson, Dalton “Dynamite” Johnson, Lily Strittmatter, Luke Strittmatter, Layna Strittmatter, Avett Canady, and Tessa Canady; and her lifelong best friend, Laura Sutorius, and Laura’s daughter, Elizabeth Sutorius Saunders.
