William Joseph "Joey" Knowles

William Joseph “Joey” Knowles went to his Heavenly Home surrounded by his caregivers and friends- Lisa Ashby, Andrew Sterling Carter, Keith Newcomb and his furry friend Calvin, who lay at his feet to the end, on Saturday, May 4th, 2024 at his home in Leasburg, NC.

He was a resident of Reidsville, NC until the last seven years of his life. He had been in declining health following a stroke in 2010. He was born March 30th, 1958, in Reidsville to the late William Morris “Willie” Knowles and Ethel Lee Parrish Knowles.

Visitation and fellowship with family and friends will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, May 11th, 2024 at New Hope Primitive Baptist Church located at 2535 Grooms Road, Reidsville, NC 27320. Following the Visitation, A Celebration of Life will be held at the church at 2:00 PM. Graveside rites will follow at the church cemetery.

Joey attended Reidsville High School and Rockingham Community College. He began his strong work ethic at the age of five shining shoes in downtown Reidsville. Growing up, he helped his family farm tobacco then worked for Lillard Beverage and Lance as a delivery driver. His most rewarding job was working for D.H. Griffin Companies in Greensboro where he traveled and was a Demolition Superintendent. His proudest accomplishment as superintendent was the demolition of the Fulton County Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia in 1997 which preceded Turner Field Stadium.

Joey was an active member of Community Baptist Church in Reidsville where he attended Sunday School and Church services for many years. He was active with the youth programs and coached softball there. He found freedom in riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle, he faced the ups and downs of life through the lyrics and music of Classic Rock, and he was a passionate and loyal friend who enjoyed the simple pleasures of quality time.

Joey leaves behind three sons, Barrett Brown of Spring Hill, Florida, Reid Griffin of Madison, NC and Preston Knowles of Washington, DC and one daughter, Brandi Vaughn Smith of Reidsville, five grandchildren, Alana Brown, Briana Brown, Barrett Brown Jr., Nelson Smith and Marilyn Smith, one brother, Weldon Keith Knowles and wife Louella of Reidsville, and his brother-in-law, Charles Hall also of Reidsville and nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters, Janice Gail Knowles, Shelby Knowles Hall and four infant siblings and one granddaughter, Avery Brown.

In lieu of flowers, please give flowers to the living and help someone that is lonely, sick or in need. Love your family, your neighbor and live the Christian calling of being a friend.

We would like to thank Ancora Hospice and all of his caregivers through the years: his best friend, Richard “Rowdy ”Hall, Tom Norman, Martha Braswell, Trisha Walker, Bryant Turner and Lora Ashby. In his final years, we thank- Andrew Sterling Carter, Dwight Briggs, Renee Ashby, and Sanya Ladd. To all who have prayed over the years for Joey and this family, your prayers have been answered and to God be the Glory!
