William Edwin "Ed" Gunn, Jr., 91, of Eden, went home peacefully to be with the Lord on Monday, October 26, 2026.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, October 30, 2026, at Grace Fellowship at South Park with Pastor Mark Tanner officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Memory Gardens, where he will be laid to rest beside his wife, Barbara. The family will receive friends Thursday, October 29, 2026, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Wilkerson Funeral Home and at other times at the home of his daughter, Kathy, in Eden.
Edwin was born in Caswell County to the late William Edwin Gunn, Sr., and Bertie Smith Gunn.
Ed was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and faithful servant of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He began his career in accounting in 1963 and opened his own accounting practice in 1971. He later partnered with his daughter, Kathy, to form Gunn & Page, LLC, which merged with Rouse, Rouse & Rouse, LLP in 2020. He served on the Board of Directors of HomeTrust Bank for over 20 years and was a long-time member of the Eden Kiwanis Club. He also served as campaign treasurer for his son-in-law, Sheriff Sam Page, for over 20 years.
Ed's faith and dedication to his church were central to his life. He first began attending First Congregational Christian Church, now Grace Fellowship at South Park, after meeting a pretty, dark-haired young lady named Barbara Brown, who would become the love of his life. He joined the church in 1955, and the following year, he and Barbara were married. Together, they shared more than 62 years of marriage and raised two daughters, Kathy and Angela.
A faithful member of the church for over 71 years, Ed served in numerous capacities, including Sunday School teacher, choir member, and member of the Men's Fellowship, Missions Committee, Finance Committee, and Deacon Board. He became the youngest deacon in the church's history and served as chairman of both the Finance Committee and Deacon Board. He helped organize In His Name Christian Services, the church's food pantry ministry, and was among the first elders selected when the church transitioned to an elder-led congregation. In recognition of his many years of faithful service, Ed was named the first Elder Emeritus of Grace Fellowship at South Park.
Outside of his professional and church involvement, Ed was a faithful member of the Eden Bojangles Club and an avid fan of the Atlanta Braves and UNC basketball. Known for his dry sense of humor, he loved telling people he was a "son of a Gunn" and was still getting in a few good zingers with those around him during his final days in the hospital.
Ed never sought recognition for his service but faithfully gave his time and talents because of his love for the Lord and his church family. His life was a reflection of his faith, his dedication to his family, and his willingness to serve others. The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the neighbors on Wilson Street, who always looked out for one another and shared a special sense of community as well as taking him to Dick’s Drive-In on Tuesday nights.
In addition to his parents, Ed was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Barbara Ann Brown Gunn, and brother-in-law, James Sharpe.
He is survived by his daughters, Kathy Gunn Page and husband, Sam, and Angela Gunn Stadler and husband, Bentley; grandchildren, Kimberly Page Williams and husband, Alex, Jacob William Stadler, and Jared Bentley Stadler; brother, Starling Gunn and wife, Glenda; sisters-in-law, Ila Sue Sharpe and Brenda B. Collie and husband, George (G.T.); and a large extended family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Grace Fellowship at South Park, 1863 South Park Drive, Reidsville, NC 27320.
