William “Bill” E. McNair, Jr., went home to be with his Lord on February 26, 2026. Family and friends will be received at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, March 14, 2026, at First Baptist Church of Summerfield, followed by a Celebration of Life at 11:00 a.m. A private interment at West End Cemetery in West End, NC, will be at 2:00 p.m.
Bill was born in Hoffman (Moore County), NC, on October 18, 1939. He was a veteran of the United States Army and was employed by the Greensboro City Police Department and as a Court Security Officer for the U.S. Marshals office, serving a total of 40 years in law enforcement. He loved to deer hunt and was a member of the Cantrell Rod and Gun Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Edgar McNair, Sr., and Lela Russell McNair of Moore County; sister Bobbi McNair McCaskill of Greensboro; and daughter-in-law Ashley Taylor McNair of Clayton.
He leaves behind his wife of 53 ½ years, Susan McCoy McNair of Browns Summit, NC; sons Ronald Wayne McNair (Amy) of Havelock; William Edgar McNair, III (Lisa) of Edenton; Stephen Russell McNair (Stephanie) of Charlotte; Lee Franklin McNair of Clayton; grandchildren “Big” Shane, Aaron, “Little” Shane, Caden, Lela, and Olivia; sister Linda McNair of Nipomo, CA; and a large group of loving family and friends.
The family would like to thank AuthoraCare Collective Hospice of Greensboro for the care and support they provided. Special thanks to his caregivers, Shumeka Brown (aide) and Ktesha Penn (RN), for the excellent care provided for Bill and the support given to the McNair family.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the charity of one’s choice are welcomed.
