Ricky went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, October 14th, at Penn Nursing Center. A graveside service will be held on Friday, October 17th, at 3:00 p.m. at Danville Memorial Gardens in Danville, VA. With Pastor Terry Larson officiating. There will be no formal visitation, but a book will be available to sign.
Ricky was preceded in death by his father, Minion W. Booth, and his mother, Elizabeth Anne Sigmon Booth.
He is survived by his brother, Curtis Booth (Peggy); nieces, Lesia Hobbs (Tyrone) and Lorie McKinney (Bracken); great-nephews, Ryan Hobbs and Brycen McKinney; and great-niece, Mason McKinney. He is also survived by his ex-wife and dear friend, Kathy Perkins.
Ricky lived most of his life in Danville and graduated from G.W. High School. He earned a business degree from Danville Community College and went on to work as a district manager for McDonald’s and later Burger King. He later earned an electrical degree and worked for I.B.E.W.
Ricky loved being outside—whether mowing the yard or trimming trees and shrubs—but if Curtis needed help, he would stop what he was doing and help every time. He never told him no.
He was an avid softball player and coached many adult leagues. Competitive by nature, he loved playing Rook (and all card and board games) with Kathy, Shirley, and Audrey. A devoted Virginia Tech fan, he went to many games with Claude Young. He also enjoyed playing pool and won several tournaments.
Ricky was a prankster who loved people and had lots of fun with them. Most importantly, he loved the Lord and his two nieces, Lesia and Lorie.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Penn Center and Hospice for all their care—it was greatly appreciated.
Wilkerson Funeral Home will be handling the arrangements.
