Wayne “Curly” Alfred Griffin, 73, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, December 3, 2025. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Wayne was born in Rockingham County to the late Lonnie Earl Griffin and the late Gwynn Jones Meador and he spent his entire life in the place he called home, building deep roots in the community that knew him best.

Wayne was widely known for his remarkable knowledge of cars and his skill as a mechanic. Whether working in the shop or helping a neighbor in need, he had a gift for bringing engines back to life and never hesitated to share his expertise. His patience, work ethic, and genuine love for the craft earned him the trust and respect of countless friends and the community over the years.

Outside the garage, Wayne found joy in the simple, steady rhythm of nature. He was an avid fisherman who treasured his time on the water at the lake or the banks of a nearby pond, and his garden was a source of pride—each season yielding vegetables he happily shared with family and friends. His love for the outdoors reflected his grounded spirit.

Wayne will be remembered for his pride in family, his roots, and his unwavering loyalty to the things he cared about. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, generosity, and the countless lives he touched along the way.

Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, Lonnie Earl Griffin Jr. Raymond Gilmore Griffin and Harold Curtis Griffin.

He is survived by his son, Wayne Alfred Griffin Jr. and wife, Lynda Griffin and his daughter Summer Hope Martin; grandchildren, Wayne Alfred Griffin III, Benjamin David Griffin, Madelyn Reese Griffin, Kandyce Nicole Hudson, Kylie Renee Martin; brother, Anthony Griffin and wife, Linda Griffin, and sister, Sarah Griffin Metzbower and husband, Michael along with a large and loving group of extended family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to NC Wildlife Resources Commission at ncwildlife.gov/donate to conserve and protect the natural fishing waters that Wayne loved so deeply.
