Listen to Obituary

Virginia Mae Roberts, 85, of Durham, went home to be with the Lord on December 7, 2025. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at Greenview Cemetery with James Toler officiating.

Virginia was born in Cumberland County to the late William Odell Kenyon and Mary Alma Baker Kenyon. Virginia and John Wayne Roberts were married at the home of his parents, Herschel Lee and Ruth Roberts, with his uncle, Rev. G. D. Moore, officiating. They first met when he saw her across the way and invited her for ice cream. After marrying, they moved to Durham, where she had lived since 1978. Virginia was a devoted Christian who enjoyed attending and watching the services at Happy Valley Baptist Church in Elizabethton, TN. She often made homemade goods to share with her family, and she will be remembered for her gentle spirit, her kindness, and the love she showed to everyone around her.

In addition to her parents, Virginia was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, John Wayne Roberts; her two children, Sylvia Mae Riggs and Barry Wayne Roberts; her two sisters, Clara Jane Toler and Elizabeth Souder; and her two brothers, William Odell Kenyon, Jr., and Robert James Kenyon.

She is survived by her sons, John Derrick Roberts and David Alan Roberts; and her siblings, Dorothy Parker of Greensboro, Mason Kenyon of Ramseur, and Rocky Kenyon of Greensboro.
