Vester Houston Pyrtle

Vester Houston Pyrtle, 90,  went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 3, 2022 at his home.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, September 7, 2022 at Wilkerson Funeral Home with Rev. Travis McGuirt and Dr. Ron Boswell officiating. Burial will follow the service in Roselawn Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home from 1:00 PM til 2:00 PM.

Houston was born in Rockingham County to the late Vester Roosevelt Pyrtle and Ella Purgason Pyrtle. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving during the Korean war and was a member of the VFW 8297 Midway Monroeton.  He was a retiree of Flav-o-rich Dairies and a member of Calvary Baptist Church where he served in many positions and was a member of the Steadfast Sunday School Class. After retirement he enjoyed working in his plants and building bird houses. A lifelong sports enthusiast, he cheered faithfully for the NCSU Wolfpack.  He especially enjoyed being Papa to his grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Marian Talley Pyrtle; siblings, Doris Philephs, Marie Carter, Louise Handy and Buford Pyrtle.

Survivors include his children, Gary Pyrtle (Marcy) and Laurie Pyrtle; grandchildren Morgan Pyrtle (Andrik Brickley), Bryan Pyrtle and Cason Pyrtle; sisters Estelle Owens, Nancy Smith and Edith Cain and many other loving family members and friends.

The family wishes to thank the caregivers, Rhonda Smith and Genevieve Clifton, who so faithfully stood by him over the  past several years.
