Tonya Watkins Carter

Tonya Watkins Carter, 55, of Reidsville, passed away at home on Tuesday, August 4, 2026.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, August 9, 2026, at Wilkerson Funeral Home with Pastor Phillip Surrett officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Carter Family Cemetery.

Tonya was born in Rockingham County to the late Donald and Doris Williams Watkins. She was a graduate of Reidsville Senior High School and went on to earn her Associate's Degree from ECPI. Tonya dedicated many years of her career as a medical transcriptionist with MedQuist.

Tonya found joy in life's simple pleasures. She loved the color purple, enjoyed painting her nails bright and fun colors, and rarely turned down a glass of sweet tea. She had an incredible talent for solving the Rubik's Cube, even developing her own algorithm to master the puzzle. Tonya treasured the time she spent with her beloved grandchildren and she also shared a special bond with her faithful dog, Grrki, who was a constant companion and source of comfort.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, David Watkins.

She is survived by her husband, Oren Scott Carter; daughters, Amanda Carter Link and husband, Chris, Katelin Lace Carter and fiancé, Nathan Stanley; grandchildren, Parker Smith and Alexander Link; father-in-law, George Carter.
