Thomas E Strong

Thomas Strong, 64, was embraced in the Lord’s arms and taken to his heavenly home on Wednesday, February 12, 2020 at Hospice of Rockingham County. The family will receive friends from 2:00-3:00PM on Sunday, February 16, 2020 at Midway United Methodist Church. Funeral Services will follow at 3:00 PM with a Military Honors’ Burial at the church. Tom was born to the late Lloyd and Minnie Lou Strong in Hazard, KY. Tom worked many years as a carpenter in the construction field. Tom’s journey in construction led him to meet his wife, Mary Lou, while they were building a home for a needy family during a mission trip in Kentucky. Tom came to NC to be with his beloved wife and become a highly admired farmer and friend of the Rockingham County community. Tom pursued his passion for farming and building to create beautiful farms and homes with livestock and hay that he enjoyed with his wife. Tom was loved by all who knew him and was admired for his devotion to his family and the Lord. Tom shared his Grace with Mary Lou, by focusing on his belief in Salvation through Jesus and the Virtuous Woman. Tom loved all of his children equally and celebrated their separate journeys through life, no matter how physically close he was to each of them. Tom also shared his love for the Lord through his devotion to Midway United Methodist Church, the Midway Men’s Group, Midway Friends’ Day Out Group and others. Tom’s carpentry skills were always available to aide his family and community and are seen in finished projects that span the countryside. Tom spent enjoyable times in fellowship with his friends at McCollum’s almost daily, but, most of all, Tom enjoyed relaxing in his evenings at home with his beloved wife, Mary Lou. Tom is survived by his wife of 19 years, Mary Lou Strong; children, Steve Strong (Samantha), Eric Strong (Tess), Danny Southard (Lynn), Phillip Southard, and Angie Stout (Jason); grandchildren, Max Strong, Eli Strong, Ben Strong, Chris Southard (Jennifer), and Rebecca Southard; siblings Joan Halker, Sharon Edmonds, and Greg Strong. Along with his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his first wife, Kathy Strong, and brothers, Tim Strong and Gary Strong. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to all of the community friends and the Midway United Methodist Church Family who supported Tom, Mary Lou, and their family during his illness. Your kindness and outward pouring of love to the family will be forever remembered and appreciated. The family would also like to express our sincere appreciation to the staff of Hospice of Rockingham County for the genuine love and care they provided during this time of need. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Special Projects Fund at Midway United Methodist Church, 10970 US 158, Reidsville, NC 27320.
