Thomas William Perkins

Thomas William Perkins (Tommy, Daddy, “Grampa”), age 75 of Reidsville, NC passed away shortly before noon on Wednesday, January 13, 2021 due to complications from COVID-19. Our family was blessed to have him in our lives. His nurses held his hand as he passed and the transition happened peacefully and quickly. Tommy was born in Forsyth County, NC on April 10, 1945 and was the son of the late George Washington Perkins and Etta Gibbons Dyson. Tommy was preceded in death by his sisters Dot McGee, Cora Bussell, Georgeann Emerson, and his infant brother. Tommy is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Glenda Walker Perkins, four sons and their wives, Steve and Teresa, Charles and Tiffany, David and Amanda, and Brian and Stacey. Tommy has five grandchildren: Jenna, Joey, Jake, Tucker and Trey Perkins. Tommy is survived by his siblings Mary Hayes, Jean Isley, and Frank Dyson and wife Rita, mother-in-law Hazel Walker and sister-in-law Kaye Cobb as well as many special nieces and nephews. Tommy graduated from Reidsville Senior High School in the class of 1964. Tommy began working at Hudson Lester Hardware Store in Reidsville when he was 15 years old. In 1981, Tommy started his own business, Reidsville Service Center, where he still worked alongside his family until his death. Tommy loved spending time at his farm “Uncle Jim’s Cabin” where he enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, making stews, cutting wood and working the land. Tommy loved telling stories to anyone that would listen, especially his children and grandchildren. Tommy was a faithful member of Lawsonville Road Baptist Church for over 55 years, where he served as a Deacon and Sunday School Teacher. Tommy was always willing to assist anyone that needed help. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff of the Annie Penn Emergency Department and the Green Valley Campus within the Moses Cone Healthcare System for their care and concern shown to the family. Thank you to our friends, family, churches and community for the prayers and support. We know Dad is in Heaven and is watching over us now. Due to COVID-19, the family will plan a memorial service at a later date. Wilkerson Funeral Home is assisting the family. Although I haven't been in touch with Tommy and his family in years, I'll never forget how nice they all were to me. I went to Lawsonville Road Baptist Church in my younger years and Tommy let me come to the cabin to help with some work and also did some fishing. Much love and respect for him and his family. Go Rest High On That Mountain.

Dealt with Tommys entire family @ Reidsville Service Center for 30 + years both personally & professionally, as he did Southern States service work on power equipment for years. Tommys idea of professional was kind, honest & gentle. He never changed that through many trying situations. My thoughts & prayers are with his family, friends & customers:pray:! A fine man has departed his earthly body for his Heavenly home!

Tommy was a sweet man. My grandfather was John Lester- Hudson and Lester Hardware. Tommy was always kind to me as a kid when I would visit grandpa! May God give you comfort during this time.

I met Tommy 55+yrs ago, at Hudson and Lester, where he worked with my daddy (Lewis Vaughn). My daddy thought, there was nothing like Tommy. Daddy knew this young man, would be a Good Man, when he grew older, and Daddy was right. Tommy was one who never changed, never gave up, his smile never changed. But most importantly, "He Loved the Lord". Our world would be a better place, if we had more Tommy Perkins in it!!!! Thank you Tommy, for just being you. Our prayers are his family, Janice and Dwight Childrey
