Sara Powell

Sara Powell, 93, passed away on Sunday, April 16, 2023, at Brookdale of Reidsville.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday April 18, 2023, at Mt. Carmel Church with Pastor Tim James officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service, from 10:00-11:00am, and other times at Susan’s home.

Sara was raised on a farm with a large Christian family and later married Glenn Powell in 1954. Soon after marriage she became a member of Mt. Carmel Church where she has been a faithful member for 69 years. She was also a faithful member of the Etta Carter Circle and taught the Junior children’s Sunday school class for many years. Sara loved planting and tending flowers, watercolor paintings, and reading until near blindness took away these loves. Dementia took over life and caused her to move to Brookdale of Reidsville where she was content. She loved her family passionately, especially her 3 grandchildren and 2 great-granddaughters.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Glenn Powell; parents, Worth and Sarah Collins; infant sister, Brucie Collins; sister and brother-in-law, Becky and Bill Mauldin; and niece, Sally Mauldin Schott.

She is survived by her daughter, Susan Sparks (Tommy); grandchildren, Heather Tripp (Arron), Ben Sparks, Sam Sparks (Emily); great-grandchildren, Lillie and Lannie Tripp; brother, David Collins; sisters, Barbara Golding, Johnie Ruth Collins, Mary Alice Collins; sister-in-law, Eleanor Green (Mike); in addition to numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the loving members of Mt. Carmel Church, neighbors, staff of Brookdale of Reidsville, and Authora Care Hospice.
