Susan Dickens Britt, 73 passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, November 14, 2026 at Woodmont United Methodist Church with Rev. Christy Taylor officiating. The family will receive friends beginning at 1:00 PM at the church prior to the service.
Susan Dickens Britt was a woman whose life was defined by love, laughter, creativity, and a remarkable ability to make others feel special. Born on December 18, 1952, to Mozelle and Bud Dickens, Susan touched countless lives through her kindness, her quick wit, and the thoughtful ways she showed others they mattered.
Susan attended Appalachian State University and Guilford Technical Community College, where she studied dental hygiene. In 1974, she married Charles Arnold Britt, beginning a life filled with family, friendships, hard work, and a deep appreciation for the people around her. Her greatest legacy is carried on through her three children, Angie B. Creech, Anna Materne, and Chad Britt, and her five beloved grandchildren, Alana and Sam Creech, Grayson and Stewart Materne, and Holland Britt. Susan taught her daughters and family many lessons, but perhaps none more important than how to love people well. She believed in going the extra mile, making others feel welcome, and ensuring that no one ever felt unimportant or overlooked. Whether through a thoughtful gesture, a perfectly timed one-liner, or simply the warmth of her presence, Susan had a special gift for bringing joy to everyday moments.
Professionally, Susan served as vice president and co-owner of Carolina Apothecary and Belmont Pharmacy. Her dedication and versatility were instrumental in the success of both businesses. She took on countless responsibilities, serving as a certified fitter, managing staff, overseeing accreditation, designing, and handling the many details that kept the companies running. Susan was willing to do whatever was needed, often going far beyond what was expected. Her hard work, resourcefulness, and commitment helped build businesses that served their communities. Outside of work, Susan found joy in art and travel. She loved capturing the special moments and beautiful things that spoke to her heart through her paintings. Whether painting dogs, flowers, or meaningful moments, she had a gift for seeing beauty in the world around her and preserving it through her art. Her creativity was a reflection of the way she lived—finding meaning in the little things and recognizing the beauty that others might overlook.
Traveling gave her the opportunity to experience new places, make memories, and continue exploring the world she loved. Susan was an active member of her community, belonging to the Reidsville Junior Service League, attending the United Methodist Church, volunteering through school PTAs, and participating in Study Club and Bridge Club. She valued friendship and fellowship and found joy in being part of the lives of others. Her Christian faith was not something she felt the need to announce; instead, it was something she lived. Susan expressed her beliefs through everyday acts of kindness and generosity. She might put together a basket of candy for nurses to brighten their day, pass along items she no longer needed to someone who could use them, or take the extra time to make a stranger feel welcome. She treated people with respect and kindness regardless of their race, religion, or gender, believing through her actions that every person deserved to feel valued. She understood that love is often found in the smallest gestures, and she lived that belief beautifully. Those who knew Susan will remember her lighthearted spirit, her funny one-liners, her generous heart, and her ability to make people feel as though they were truly special. She had a way of turning ordinary moments into meaningful ones and reminding those around her that kindness does not have to be grand to make a difference.
Susan leaves behind a legacy that cannot be measured by professional accomplishments alone. It lives in the people she loved, the laughter she shared, the beauty she created through her art, and the countless small acts of kindness that made the world a little brighter. Most of all, it lives in the example she set for her children and grandchildren: to see people, to welcome them, to respect them, and to make sure they know they matter. She will be deeply missed and forever loved by her family, friends, and all those fortunate enough to have known her. The love she gave so freely will continue to live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind.
