Sterling Wilder Smith

Sterling Wilder Smith, of Ruffin, NC, passed peacefully on September 27, 2021. Sterling was born in Winter Garden, FL on May 11. 1958 to Baswell and Cornelia Smith.

Sterling had three passions in life his work, his faith, and his hobby.

Professionally, Sterling was a proud construction superintendent. He loved his work. He loved to talk about the job sites and what the days held. He worked on projects as large as the University of South Florida to 4 Rivers Smokehouses. At the time of his passing, he was gainfully employed with Marand Construction, who Sterling was extremely honored and performed to the best of his ability to show that appreciation.

Sterling ‘s faith played a large part of his life. He was dedicated to the Fieldcrest Road Church of God. At any moment that you got into a car Sterling was driving you would hear gospel music. That passion for music led him to spend a large portion of his time playing bass and singing with different Gospel bands.

When he wasn’t working or playing music, you will find Sterling in a stand or a blind hunting. Hunting was his passions and that passion brought food to other’s tables. He was so passionate about hunting he got his new wife to accompany him on numerous trips into the stand.

Sterling was preceded in death by his mom, Cornelia Smith earlier this year in March.

He is survived by his wife Rita; stepchildren, Keith and wife Melanie, Misty; grandchildren, Alex and husband Ben, Brian, and Cierra; great-grandchildren Jace and Jaxon; father, Baswell Smith 95; brother Mark.

Per the wishes of Sterling and the situation we are faced with the pandemic, there will be no immediate service. Sterling did not wish to have the conventional funeral and instead wanted everyone to gather, celebrate and remember. So please send an email with your interest of attending this service with your contact information to this address: sterlingcolservice@gmail.com.
