Shirley Wall Layne

Shirley Wall Layne, 87, of Ruffin, NC passed away peacefully on January 17, 2026, at Ancora Compassionate Care. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friends, Shirley will be remembered for her humble spirit, giving nature, and the deep love she had for her family and community.

A funeral service will be held at 2 PM on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at Hickory Grove United Methodist Church with Rev. Lee Eggers officiating. The family will receive friends from 5-7 PM at Wilkerson Funeral Home. Burial will follow the service at Hickory Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Born on May 23, 1938 in Pelham, Shirley was the daughter of a close-knit family and the beloved sister of Emma Wall Jerrell (Walter), Frances Wall Mays (Jake), Ollie Wall French (Jerry), Mary Wall Hylton (Bill), Norma Wall Baise (Martin), Clarence wall (Betty)all of whom have preceded her in death as well as her beloved dog, Benji.

Throughout her life she carried a quiet strength and a steadfast faith that guided her through joy and sorrow alike. She was a member of Hickory Grove United Methodist Church where she attended faithfully for many years. She loved her mountain trips with family, wreath making, cooking, and in earlier years tending to her doll house which she was so proud to create and share.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 68 years, Thomas E Layne; daughter, Shirley Jean Law (Tommy); grandchildren, Melissa Owens, Daniel Law (Amanda), Megan Benfield (Matt); great grandchildren, Ciera Owens, Melia Owens, Brock Owens, Colton Benfield and soon to be born Easton Benfield along with numerous nieces, nephews and a large group of extended family and friends.

Memorial contributions may be made in her honor to Ancora Compassionate Care at PO Box 281 Wentworth, NC 27375 who took amazing care of her in her final weeks.
