Shirley Wagoner Huffines, 90, of Browns Summit, passed away peacefully at her home to be with the Lord on November 10, 2025.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, November 13, 2025, at Friendship United Methodist Church with Pastor Kevin Cochran and Pastor Rick LeBaube officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at Wilkerson Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

She was born to the late Roy Celester Wagoner and Nettie Ann Stanfield Wagoner. Shirley taught school at Browns Summit Elementary for more than 20 years, where she made a lasting impact on countless young lives. No matter where she went, it seemed she’d always run into one of her former students, each with a fond memory or story to share. Known to just about everyone as The Tomato Lady, Shirley loved being outside. She was an avid gardener who could make anything grow and took care of her yard up until her health wouldn’t let her anymore. She was a wonderful cook and baker—famous for her cakes, pies, and especially her banana pudding. She’d take a cake to everyone, but that banana pudding was reserved only for the special ones.

She loved playing cards and could sit up all night long doing it. She was an avid sports fan who loved baseball and NASCAR and was a loyal Wolfpack and Atlanta Braves supporter through and through. She also loved the sun, the beach, cruises and traveling, taking many trips to their place at Emerald Isle. Shirley loved life and knew how to live it.

If she told you she was going to do something, you could put it in the bank that it would get done. She was dedicated to her family, her friends, and her church. She was also a proud member of the Monroeton Garden Club and Happy Hearts.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Donald Leon Huffines; siblings: Leon Franklin Wagoner and his wife, Frances; Paul C. Wagoner and his wife, Mildred; “Doc” Wagoner and his wife, Dot; Charles Wagoner and his wife, Sarah; Lillian Wagoner Jones and her husband, Ernest; and Betty Wagoner Busick (“Sis”) and her husband, Glenn.

Left to cherish her memory is her longtime companion and boyfriend, Roger Baldwin of Greensboro; her children, Patti Reid and husband, David; Donnie Huffines and Christy Ashburn; and Chad Huffines and wife, Jennie; and her beloved grandchildren, Traci Reid Bast and Doug; Matthew Reid and Sara; Shawn Huffines and Chelsea; Summer Kimbro and Spencer; Olivia Huffines; Josie Huffines; and Alex Huffines.

She was also blessed with great-grandchildren: Izzy and Brody Bast; Kyler and Kallina Huffines; and Sawyer Kimbro; as well as many loving nieces and nephews.
