Listen to Obituary

Robert Curtis Bondurant, 75, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at his home with his “princess” by his side.

Robert was born in Bamberg, Germany, to Franz Brückner and Anita Flurschütz and was given the name Karl Heinz Flurschütz. He was raised in Rockingham County by Robert and Vivian Bondurant. He was also preceded in death by his “parents,” Sam P. Knight and Betty G. Knight. Betty always proudly introduced Robert as her “other son,” a testament to the special bond they shared.

Robert was a faithful member of Fairview Baptist Church, where he served in many capacities throughout the years. He served as Chairman of Deacons, was a member of the pastor search committee that brought Pastor Heath Lloyd to Fairview, served as Assistant Sunday School Director, and faithfully served on various other committees whenever he was needed.

Robert began his career with Martin Marietta before going to work at Chinqua Penn Plantation as Maintenance Supervisor. It was during his time at Chinqua Penn that he discovered his passion and talent for heating and air conditioning. That interest eventually led him to purchase Jones Heating and Air in 1992. He took great pride in building a successful business and continued working there until his retirement in 2026.

A caring and funny man, Robert had a gift for making people feel welcome. He never met a stranger and could strike up a conversation with just about anyone. Above all, he loved his family and cherished the time he spent with them.

Robert was extremely talented with his hands and could seemingly fix or build just about anything. He enjoyed working on cars and lawnmowers and especially loved woodworking. He also had a lifelong love of photography that began when he purchased his first camera while in Germany. His creativity and curiosity could be seen in the many projects and interests that filled his life.

Robert was a longtime member of Jefferson Penn Masonic Lodge #384. He also served as Assistant Scoutmaster for Troop 797 and was a member of the Order of the Arrow, Tsalagi Lodge. Through these organizations and his church, Robert touched the lives of many and was always willing to lend a hand.

Along with his wife of 54 years, Hilda Knight Bondurant, Robert is survived by his sons, Todd Bondurant and wife, Mylene, and Jason Bondurant and wife, Robyn; daughter, Courtney Cucchiara and husband, Billy; grandchildren, Julian, Kathryn, Riley, Dion, Jackson, and Andrew; special brother, Sammy Knight and wife, Gina; sister-in-law, Sandra Wilson; nephew, Samuel Knight; and niece, Kaitlyn Strader.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, August 10, 2026, at Hillsdale Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Todd Harris officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 PM on Sunday, August 9, 2026, at Wilkerson Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Baptist Children’s Home, P.O. Box 338, Thomasville, NC 27361, or Hillsdale Primitive Baptist Church, c/o James Knight, 7632 Royster Road, Greensboro, NC 27455.
