Rebecca Vernon Samuels
Rebecca “Becky” Vernon Samuels, age 88, formerly of 1065 Gilliam Road, passed away on Thursday, January 16, 2020 at the Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation with her daughter by her bedside. A Graveside Service will be held at Thompsonville Baptist Church Cemetery on Monday, January 20, 2020 at 11:00 AM with Ted Hopkins officiating. Visitation will take place after the service. At other times the family will gather at hergreat grandchildren's home, 249 Ashland Road, Ruffin, NC. Mrs. Samuels was born on June 12, 1931 in Rockingham County to the late Hobson P. Vernon, Sr. and Mary Crowder Vernon. Nanny, as she was called, was a faithful wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Her hobbies included reading, embroidery, and cleaning. Her family and grand-babies played an important part in her life and they will miss her greatly. Along with her parents, Rebecca is preceded in death by her husband, Richard W. Samuels, "Jr"; grandson, Boyd Cantrell; siblings: H. P. Vernon, Jr. Elizabeth Sturdy, Carol Bowman, and Marion Livingston. Survivors include her daughter, Mary Ellen Cantrell; great grandchildren: Skyler Cantrell and R.J. Cantrell; and her special friend, Linda Cobb; her sweet roomate Della Lamb and many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, donations are welcome to help with funeral expenses.
