Pamelia "Pam" Lester Somers

Listen to Obituary

Pamelia “Pam” Somers, 78, of Reidsville, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, January 30, 2026, with her loving husband by her side.

A funeral service will be held at Sharon Baptist Church on Tuesday, February 3, at 2:00 PM, with Kevin Duncan and Dr. Greg Robertson officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at Sharon Baptist Church and at other times at the Somers’ home. The burial will follow the service at Evergreen Memorial Gardens.

Pam was a devoted homemaker who also worked for many years in the banking industry in Reidsville. In addition, she served faithfully as a secretary at Reidsville Alliance Church.

She was a member of the Reidsville Garden Club and generously gave her time volunteering through her church, including serving in Awanas, the church nursery, and by lovingly making hats for NICU newborns.

Pam was a gifted and creative crafter. She taught herself to crochet and made a handmade blanket for each of her grandchildren, as well as countless baby blankets for family friends. She could cross-stitch just about anything and delighted in creating meaningful gifts for others. In her later years, she enjoyed taking painting classes and learned to quilt alongside the ladies at Sharon Baptist Church.

Family was always at the heart of Pam’s life. When her daughter, Heather, became a teacher, Pam spent countless hours helping set up her classroom, often alongside her mother and father, Frances and John. During Heather’s years as a principal, Pam and Frances lovingly handmade gifts each year for every member of the school staff. Pam also faithfully supported Patrick’s children during a pivotal time in their lives, nurturing them with love, stability, and encouragement.

Pam was a deeply devoted grandmother who treasured time with her grandchildren. She made every effort to be present in their lives, attending their events, celebrating their milestones, teaching them, and quietly encouraging them along the way. Whether through time spent together, thoughtful conversations, or acts of service, she loved each of them deeply and unconditionally. Her grandchildren were one of her greatest joys, and they will forever carry the lessons, love, and faith she poured into their lives.

Pam never met a stranger. She had a remarkable ability to connect with anyone and, within minutes, learn their story. She was known for faithfully sending cards, gifts, and notes of encouragement for birthdays, weddings, times of loss, and other special moments. Each grandchild could always count on a cardevery holiday—often with a little something extra tucked inside.

Above all, Pam loved the Lord. She and her husband, John, shared that love openly with others and were active, faithful members of their church. Together, they made sure their children and grandchildren knew about Jesus from a very early age, leaving a legacy of faith that will continue for generations.

Pam was preceded in death by her father, John Powell Lester, Sr.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years, John Somers; son, Joe Somers (Melissa); daughter, Heather Bare (Steve); and son, Patrick Somers (Brooke); grandchildren, Jacob Somers, Kaitlin Somers (Hayden), Abby Grace Bare (Tyler), Lillie Somers-Howell (Keegan), and Victoria Bare; her mother, Frances Lester; her sister, Kathy Stovall; her brother, JP Lester, Jr. (Joyce); along with numerous family members and loved ones.
