Otelia Smith Overby

Reidsville – Otelia Smith Overby, 89, formerly of 1210 Morgan Drive, passed away on Thursday, May 8, 2008 at Carolina House. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, on Saturday, May 10, 2008 at Wilkerson Funeral Home with the Rev. Mark Harris officiating. The burial will follow in Reidlawn Cemetery.   Mrs. Overby was born in Guilford County, February 2, 1919, to the late Edd and Rilla Pyrtle Smith. She was a member of the New Lebanon Congregational Christian Church where she was a former Sunday School teacher.   She was a member of the Hoe and Hope Garden Club, Circle 1 and Den Mother to Cub Scout Troop #44.   She was a retired co-owner of Short Sugar’s, Inc.   Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Wesley Overby; sister, Ophelia Smith; brothers, Otha Lewis Smith, Oranda Smith and and Omar Grey Smith; and infant daughter, Tina Beth Overby. Surviving are her sons, Wesley Smith Overby and wife, Esther, Randall Keith Overby and wife, Elizabeth; two grandchildren, Deana Overby Thomas and husband, Josh and Melodie Lea Overby; step-granddaughter, Amber Jordan Pegram and husband, Hunter; great-grandchild, Weston James Thomas; step-great grandchildren, Tate and Grace Pegram; brother, O. R. Smith; sisters, Obelia Smith Marshall and Okla Mae Gibson; and also special sister-in-law, Mrs. John “Biddie” Overby. The family will receive friends Friday, at Wilkerson Funeral Home from 6:00 – 8:00 PM and other times at the home of the son, Wes Overby, 1314 Woodland Drive.
