Nancy Ellington Collie

Nancy Ellington Collie, 89, of 2931 Vance Street Extension, Reidsville, NC 27320 passed away Friday, October 13, 2023. 

The funeral service will be held at 2:00pm on Monday, October 16, 2023, at Happy Home Church, 6941 NC Hwy 700, Ruffin, NC  27326 with burial to follow at the Mount Carmel Global Methodist Church Cemetery, 361 Mount Carmel Church Road, Reidsville, NC  27320.  The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service from 12:30 - 2:00pm.

Nancy was married for 58 years to John S. Collie, Jr. who predeceased her.  She was also predeceased by her parents, George D. and Myrtle Powell Ellington, her brothers and sisters-in-law, Warren and Kathryn Ellington and Otis and Helen Ellington, her sisters and brothers-in-law, Winifred and Gilmer Brande and Betty and GW Scearce.

Nancy is survived by her three children:  Steven Collie and wife Carmon, Brian Collie and wife Barbara, and Carol Raiger and husband David. Her six grandchildren:  Shannon Lowder and husband Sam, Lauren Birdno and husband Jared, Tyler Collie and wife Clara, Laura Collie, Taylor Raiger, Adam Raiger, and five great granddaughters:  Tenley, Olivia and Halle Birdno, Isabelle and Sophia Lowder and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Nancy graduated from Ruffin High School in 1952 and also finished the one-year secretarial course at UNC-Greensboro.  Nancy was a professional Income Tax Preparer, having worked for 17 years in Reidsville and 17 years in Eden.  In 1945, she united with the Happy Home Church and served faithfully in many capacities.  At different times, she was Church Treasurer, Church Secretary, Sunday School Teacher, worked with the choir, Willing Workers Circle and was Church Historian.  She was a charter member of the Oregon Hill Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary.

In lieu of flowers, memorial Donations may be made to Happy Home Church in care of Peggy Gallaher – 6941 NC Hwy 700, Ruffin, NC  27326, Hospice of Rockingham County, or the charity of the donor’s choice. 

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Brookdale Reidsville for their love and support over the last 4 years.
