Betty "Nancy" Cook Durham

Betty “Nancy” Cook Durham, 76, of 765 Cedar Lane, passed away and went home to be with The Lord, Monday, April 25, 2022, at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Friday, April 29, 2022, at Wilkerson Funeral Home with Pastor Ronnie Warner officiating. The burial will follow at Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday, April 28, 2022, from 6:00 – 8:00 PM and other times at the home.

Nancy was born in Rockingham County to the late John Cook and Josephine Cook Shelton. She worked in special products for Burlington Industries for several years. She attended Freedom Baptist Church and was faithfully committed to her daughter, Joyce’s care throughout her life. She loved nature and especially enjoyed going to the beach. She was always ready for an adventure and carried her faith in everything she did. Over the years, Nancy always made room for her pets. Along with her parents, Nancy was also preceded in death by her daughter Joyce Durham; sister Mae Kalain; brothers John Cook and Marion Cook and stepfather, Robert Shelton.

Nancy is survived by her husband Pete Durham; children Gerald Durham and wife Robin and Darlene “Janet” Gilley and husband Kenny; grandchildren Brandon Gilley and wife Holly, Travis Gilley, Kristie Beny and husband Alan, and Cameron Durham; great grandchildren Riley Gilley, Cheyenne Gilley, and Evryn Beny; sister Kay Byars; brothers Joe Cook and wife Karen and Robert Shelton and wife Cheryl; and a large extended family.
