Listen to Obituary

Mildred Ware “MeMaw” Massey, 92, went to her Heavenly home on Monday morning, April 13, 2026, at the Chilton Family Care Home. Born on August 4, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Rosa Tate and Reid Ware.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, April 16, 2026, at Wilkerson Funeral Home with Pastor Tommy Puryear & Dr. Ian Pace officiating and the burial will follow at Reidlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at Wilkerson Funeral Home and at other times the family will receive friends at the respective homes of the children.

Mildred was married to the late E.W. Massey, Jr., and together they shared 54 years of marriage. They found great joy in square dancing, traveling, and faithfully serving the Lord side by side.

She dedicated 35 years of service to Lorillard Tobacco Company before her retirement. Mildred was a devoted and active member of Penn Memorial Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir, taught Bible classes, provided endless meals to the shut-ins and served on numerous committees, always offering her time with a willing and joyful heart.

Mildred’s greatest joy in life was her family. She cherished every moment spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, creating a legacy of love that will endure for generations.

She is survived by her five children: Cyndi (Gary), Wendy (Mack), Ernie (Susan), Tommy (Suzanne), and Lea Anne (Chris); 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and special sister-in-law, Carrie Massey.

She will be remembered for her strong faith, her loving spirit, and her deep devotion to her family and community. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

The family would like to thank Leslie Chilton and the staff of Chilton Family Care Home for loving our mother like she was theirs!
