A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, November 6, 2026 at Wilkerson Funeral home with Pastor Peter Hamilton officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday, November 5, 2026 from 6-8 PM at the funeral home. A graveside committal will follow the service at Bethany Community Church Cemetery.

Melba was born on September 10, 1957, in Greensboro, North Carolina, to the late H.C. and Louise Hudson. She grew up in the Bethany Community and graduated from Bethany High School in 1975. On July 5, 1977, Melba married the love of her life, Tommy Clay Ashley. Together, they built a life filled with love, family, and treasured memories. On February 27, 1979, they welcomed their one and only son, Randall (Randy) Keith Ashley, who brought great joy to their lives. Melba was a dedicated and hardworking woman who was employed by Macfield/Unifi for 20 years and Southern Foods for 15 years. Throughout her working years, she developed many lasting friendships and was known for her dedication and kindness.

Melba had a strong Christian faith and a heart for serving others. She was actively involved in her church, serving in various ministries and committees, including as a lay speaker, worship leader, and in Kids Ministry. Her faith was an important part of her life, and she found great joy in sharing God’s love with others.

Of all the blessings in Melba’s life, two of her greatest were her precious grandchildren, Maggie Louise Ashley and Clay “Cowboy” Davidson Ashley. These two were her greatest blessings, bringing immeasurable happiness, pride, and love into her life. Being their Nana was one of her most treasured roles.

Melba is survived by her loving son, Randall (Randy) Keith Ashley; her daughter-in-law, Libby Ashley; her beloved grandchildren, Maggie Louise Ashley and Clay “Cowboy” Davidson Ashley; her brothers, Kenneth Hudson and his wife, Lynn, and Mike Hudson and his wife, Karen; and her sister, Lynn Macey, and her husband, Barry. She is also survived by her mother-in-law, Marie Ashley; brother-in-law, Terry Ashley and his wife, Tina; sisters-in-law, Darlene Ashley and Bonnie Hale; a host of nephews, nieces, great-nephews, great-nieces, and one great-great-nephew, along with several precious friends who held a special place in her heart.

In addition to her parents, Melba was preceded in death by her precious husband, Tommy Clay Ashley, who passed away on August 12, 2019; her great-niece, Faith Mackenzie Doss-Hudson; and her brother-in-law, Wayne Hale. Nana Melba cherished her family and friends and was forever grateful for the love, help, and kindness she received throughout her life. She appreciated every act of compassion and every person who stood beside her.

Above all, Melba’s greatest desire was for each and every person she loved to know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. She wanted everyone to find Him, accept Him into their hearts, and walk in His faith.

In her own heartfelt words, Melba reminded those she loved to put their faith on their “agenda,” promising that she would save them a spot. Her message was simple but powerful: Love one another, cherish your family, hold your friends close, and most importantly, walk with Jesus. Melba leaves behind a beautiful legacy of faith, family, friendship, and love. While her earthly presence will be deeply missed, her memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.” — 2 Timothy 4:7

Melba’s final message to those she loved:

Put it on your “agenda,” and Melba will save you a spot.

Love you all.
