Matthew Price Marshall, 36, of Reidsville, passed into the presence of his Lord and Savior on January 25, 2026, after a brief illness and unexpected death.

Our son, Matthew, was born on May 20, 1989, and God blessed us with many years of love, joy and prayerful moments with him. Matthew was a scholar and an athlete at Bethany Elementary School and Rockingham County High School. He loved and excelled in basketball, soccer, and swimming, with basketball as his favorite sport. However, he chose swimming in high school, where he swam all four strokes well and was known for his butterfly in competition. Matthew was the swim team captain in his senior year, and his relay team won the individual medley for the county and competed at the regional level. Matthew was also the Assistant Swim Coach for one year following graduation.

Matthew was a Teen Volunteer at Moses Cone Hospital for two years, serving in the Volunteer Office and Human Resources. He was also a Boy Scout for several years and worked as a summer camp counselor. Matthew earned his Eagle Scout Award when he designed and built a 20-foot steel cross and meditation area for Camp GuilRock. Matthew attended Rockingham Community College’s two-year college transfer program and also took several welding and drafting classes.

Matthew worked for several years at Annie Penn Hospital and as a forklift driver in automotive logistics. Matthew was a sixth-generation farmer and was his dad’s right-hand man on the family farm for the past twenty-five years. He helped his parents successfully manage every aspect of farming a vineyard and an orchard, and helped maintain all the equipment.

Matthew’s creativity and sensitivity allowed him to create wonderful mechanical renderings, drawings, and artwork from childhood to adulthood, often realized as tools and other uses on the farm. Matthew also enjoyed writing songs and playing the guitar, and had the joy of singing with his grandmother at Harvest Baptist Church, where he attended. Matthew loved all things hunting and fishing, and especially loved to fish at the coast during vacations with his family. Just like his Grandma Pat, Matthew also rescued several homeless cats and dogs over the years and shared his home with his faithful companion, Dakota.

Matthew’s most important role was as a father to his son and daughter, whom he dearly loved and cherished. They were his heartbeats and joy.

Matthew’s family who share memories of his precious life include his son, Corbin Montgomery; his daughter, Kora Belle Marshall; parents, Paul and Kristi Marshall; sister, Catherine (Matt) Wilson; brother, Richard Newton; aunt, Emmy Marshall (Chip); uncles, Tim (Kathi) Price, Marlon Price (Lynn), and Steve (Vickie) Price; great-uncles, Hubert Price and Bud (Nancy) Price; and his eleven nieces and nephews.

Matthew was preceded in death by his grandparents, Paul and Edna Earle Marshall; Earl and Lizzie Marshall; Patricia Alley Tilley and Lance Tilley; Bernard and Modena Price; great-aunts, Sarah Lois Alley, Faye Smith, and Carol Hill; great-uncles, Warner Price, Gordon Price, and Max Alley; and his cousin, Shannon Price.

John 16:22, “And ye now therefore have sorrow: but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no man taketh from you.”

We will celebrate Matthew’s life with a private memorial service in May. Donations in Matthew Marshall’s memory can be made to Camp GuilRock, 531 Beville Road, Reidsville, NC.
