Matthew William Hogrefe

Matthew William Hogrefe, 55, of Reidsville, passed away Saturday, October 3, 2026.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, at Wilkerson Funeral Home. A private family burial will take place at a later date.

Matt was born in Napoleon, Ohio, to the late Gary Hogrefe and Kathy Houk Hogrefe. He was a big family man who loved his family deeply, especially his grandchildren.

Football was a big part of Matt’s life. He loved the game and spent many years coaching, including some of that time at Rockingham County High School. He could be stubborn at times, which probably served him well as a coach, but underneath it all was someone who cared deeply about the people in his life.

Matt spent much of his working life on the road as a truck driver and had a real love for semis and big trucks. He was also proud of his Mustang and enjoyed getting behind the wheel. Matt had a sweet tooth and especially enjoyed sharing candy with his grandchildren.

Matt was preceded in death by his wife of 17 years, Heidi Fahringer Hogrefe and his father.

He is survived by his children, Matthew Hogrefe (Melanie), Katy Sparks (Andy), Nathan Hogrefe (Kylie), Samuel Hogrefe (Angel), and William Hogrefe; grandchildren, Amelia Hogrefe, Matthew Hogrefe, Oliver Sparks, Heidi Sparks, and Luke Sparks; mother, Kathy Houk Hogrefe; sister, Kristy Sochia; and numerous nieces and nephews.
