Mary Ruth Evans Ray

Mary Ruth Evans Ray, 82, went home to be with the Lord and family on Saturday, March 20, 2021. A graveside service will be held at 2:00pm on Thursday, March 25, at Evergreen Memorial Gardens with pastor Micky Alcorn officiating. Mary was born on April 17, 1938 in Buncombe County, NC; later moving to Rockingham County and graduating from Reidsville High School. Mary worked most of her life at Dan River Mills where she was a class A weaver, but her favorite job was at Walmart in Eden where she was the door greeter and will be remembered as “Sargent Mary” for her record of catching shop lifters. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who will be missed by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Irvin Ray; son, Danny James and daughter, Sharon Ray. Mary is survived by her children, Billy James and Ronald Ray; grandchildren, Joshua Ray, Sean James and Martha James; great-grandchildren, Jayla Ray, Sophia Ray, and Braelynn James; sisters, Sarah Branch and Louise Evans; special niece, Rosetta Ward and daughter Tink, in addition to numerous other extended family.
