Martha Ware Chilton

Martha Ware Chilton, 88, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 18, 2026.

A Memorial service will be held June 6th, 2pm at First Baptist Church, 409 S. Main St, Reidsville NC 27320 with Dr. Lance Cole officiating.

Martha was born in Rockingham County at Annie Penn Hospital to the late Clarence Garrette Ware and Viola Dill. She was a graduate of Reidsville High School in 1956 after which she attended Lees-McRae College studying to become a Lab Technician. After graduation Martha worked as a Lab Tech at Annie Penn, Morehead and Alamance County hospitals. She was a wonderful artist and valued the fine arts. She passed her love of the arts and classical music to her son, Van. Martha enjoyed cooking and trying new recipes, she passed her love of food to both Allan and Van. She was a longtime supporter of the American Lung Association. She was an active and long time member as a youth and young adult, and got married at Reidsville First Baptist Church until leaving Reidsville in 1969. Upon relocation to Charlotte, she and Allan were very active members at Mint Hill Baptist Church. Martha and Allan also attended Cornerstone Church in Charlotte. For the past several years she attended service at Reidsville Baptist Church.

Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by husband of 46 years, Donald Cline Chilton; son, Allan Todd Chilton;

She is survived by her son, Vander Garrette Chilton and wife, Reece Batchelor Chilton as well as a loving group of friends and extended family.
