The family will receive friends at Wilkerson Funeral Home on Sunday, January 11th, from 6-8 PM and other times at the home of her daughter, Anita Guill, at 257 Cook Florist Road.
Margaret, a native of Reidsville, NC was born to the late Henery and Gracie Lamberth Gilley on December 15, 1924 as the 5th of 10 children. A graduate of Wentworth High School, she was a devoted wife to Taylor W. Griffin for 49 years. Joining and faithfully attending Reidsville Alliance Church for over 80 years, she was known as a prayer warrior and leader of the women's missionary group for over 40 years.
Margaret and her husband Taylor raised a huge garden year after year and shared the bounty of their harvest with friends and family. She also loved to cook and take food to family, friends, shut- ins and others in need. She devoted her life to helping others in the church and community. She was featured on News 2 for her contributions to meals on wheels, delivering meals from 1978, when the program was introduced in Reidsville, and continued until she was 90 in 2015.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Calvin, Robert, and Malcolm Gilley; sisters, Ruth Corrum, Helen Davis, Dorothy Robertson, MaryLee Loftis, and Bobbie Jean Taylor; great-grandson Griffin Guill.
She is survived by her daughter Anita Griffin Guill (Larry); grandson, Taylor Guill (Melissa); granddaughter, Heather Swayne (Don); 4 great-grandchildren, Alexandria and Gina Haizlip, Jacob (Kaylea), Matthew (Allison) Guill; bonus great-granddaughter, Savannah Goolsby; great-great grandson, Kade Patterson; sister, Betty Lou Gunn; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to Eden Rehabilitation and Healthcare and Hospice of Rockingham County for taking care of her in her later days.
In honor of Margaret's memory, flowers to the family, or donations to Meals on Wheels, Hospice of Rockingham County, and Reidsville Alliance Church, would be a meaningful tribute.
