Leon Bryant Smith

Leon Bryant Smith, 73, of Reidsville, went home to be with the Lord on July 27, 2025. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM on Thursday, July 31, 2025, at Wilkerson Funeral Home with Pastor Chris Davis officiating. Burial will follow at Reidlawn Cemetery.

Leon was born in Guilford County to the late Herman Bryant Smith and Annie Coleman Smith. He was the lead engineer at Gilbarco, Inc. for over 35 years. His work took him far beyond the office in Greensboro—he proudly represented the company both across the country and internationally, from Germany to China. He graduated from Sumner High School in 1970 and went on to attend Guilford Technical College. Leon was an avid outdoorsman who found joy in nature. He loved just about any outdoor activity—he skied all across the United States and spent many hours hiking trails wherever he could find them. He also enjoyed playing chess. He loved the Lord. He loved his family, and he loved Joan’s family like his own. He had a deep appreciation for North Carolina, especially his roots in Guilford County. Leon lived by a simple philosophy: “Any day not in the tobacco field was a good day.”

In addition to his parents, Leon was preceded in death by his four brothers: Reid, J.C., Dennis, and Harry Smith; and by his life partner, Sandra Joan Miles.

He is survived by his sisters, Polly Parrish and Regina Lamonds (Roger); his brother, Tom Smith (Carol); his daughter, Amber Patterson (John); his son, Chris Murray (Jeanne); four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friend, Steve McSpadden.

In leiu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of the Piedmont, 1803 Westchester Drive, High Point, NC.
