Kirby Harold Moore, 83, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 5, 2026. He was born in Rockingham County on February 7, 1942 to the late Joseph and Sarah Moore.
Family will receive friends on Saturday, February 14, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Wilkerson Funeral Home. A funeral service will begin at 1:00 PM officiated by Pastor Rick Church. Burial will immediately follow the service at Evergreen Memory Gardens.
Kirby cherished every moment spent with his grandchildren, Sienna Simmonds-Moore, Angelina Moore, Anabella Moore, and Leif Simmonds-Moore. He asked about them often and delighted in hearing about their latest adventures, whether they involved dancing, making music, or riding horses. He also loved gardening alongside his wife, Linda, and together they took great pride in the long rows of Silver Queen corn they grew and shared with their family.
Kirby spent 40 years driving for Old Dominion Freight Line, retiring just before his 70th birthday. He held a deep love for his brothers and sisters and made it a priority to stay in close contact with them, especially as they grew older and were less able to get out.
Some of Kirby’s happiest days were spent on the lake. Family outings filled with water-skiing, swimming, and cooking out by the shore became treasured traditions. He taught many friends and family members how to ski and shared with them his deep appreciation for the water.
A talented mechanic, Kirby could replace a piston or rebuild an entire engine, and in his younger years friends frequently sought him out for help with their vehicles. He was also a skilled builder, serving as the contractor for his own home and later adding a sunroom with the same care, pride, and craftsmanship.
Kirby was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He and his wife, Linda, shared more than 65 years of marriage, and his love and concern for her well-being never wavered. He was a loving father to his sons, Harold Moore and Stephen Moore, and to his late daughter, Lisa Moore. He also deeply loved and supported his daughters-in-law, Victoria Del Gaizo Moore and Chris Simmonds-Moore.
In addition to his parents and daughter Lisa, Kirby was preceded in death by his brothers; Harvey Moore and Kenneth Moore; and his sisters, Lois Lowe, Polly Gunn, Mary Ellen Lovings, Margaret Tickle, Betty Diamont, Sarah Brame, and Amelia Friddle.
Kirby will be remembered for his quiet strength, generous spirit, and unwavering devotion to his family.
