Josephine Easley Mabe

Josephine Easley Mabe, 82, passed away at home peacefully on Saturday, October 30, 2021.

Josephine was born on October 20, 1939 to the late Robert Easley Sr. and Esther Green Easley in Brosville Community, Virginia; later, she moved to Pelham, North Carolina and graduated from Ruffin High School. She married the love of her life, James, on September 16, 1962 and they were happily married for 35 years before his passing. Together, she and James raised two girls, Cynthia and Virginia, and later, she loved and adored her two grandsons, Michael and J.C. She loved UNC Tarheel basketball and working on the family farm, gardening and raising cows, horses, and pigs. She was also a dedicated and faithful of member of Hickory Grove United Methodist Church and was very involved in the Happy Home Extension Club and the Hickory Grove Women’s Society. Despite having difficulties with her eyesight, she was able to remain independent until the last couple years of her life. She was a true and faithful friend to many and will be missed by all who knew her.


In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband James Odell Mabe; brother, Robert Allen Easley, Jr. and sister, Mary E. Belch.


Josephine is survived by her daughters, Cynthia Mabe O’Brien and husband Chuck of Raleigh, Virginia Mabe Mallard and husband Curtis of Pelham; grandsons, Michael O’Brien of Raleigh and J.C. Mallard of Pelham; brother-in-law, Donnie Mabe of Summerfield; sisters-in-law, Peggy Hampton and husband Wayne of Charlotte, and Debra Easley of Ringgold, VA in addition to numerous nieces and nephews.


An 11:00 graveside service will be held on Wednesday, November 3, 2021 at Hickory Grove United Methodist Church in Pelham with Rev. Lee Eggers officiating. The family will receive friends at other times at Josephine’s home.


In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Hickory Grove UMC, 9983 NC Hwy 700 Pelham, NC 27311, or Hospice of Rockingham County, PO Box 281, Wentworth, NC 27375.
