James Edward Powell

James Edward Powell, 87, of Ruffin went home to be with the Lord on Monday, January 10, 2022.

A graveside funeral service will be held at 11 A.M., Thursday, January 13, 2022 at Happy Home Church Cemetery in Ruffin with Rev. Keith Carroll officiating.

James was born in Rockingham County to the late James Marvin Powell and Josie Scearce Powell. He attended Ruffin Highschool. He was a tobacco farmer from the time he was born. After retirement from farming tobacco, he continued to work on the farm growing and selling produce. He sold produce mostly to fellowship with people in the community. He kept a pristine yard and took great pride in making sure it was mowed and manicured. Most of all he loved his family. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Along with his parents, James is preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Louise Overton Powell and his sister, Elaine Powell Hopkins.

James is survived by his children, James Michael Powell, Kathy P. Higgs (Mike), Jeannie Powell, Jim Edd Powell (Lori); grandchildren, Savannah, Madalynn, Kelly, and Jason Powell; great grandchild, Willie; fur baby, Becca along with a large and loving group of extended family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Rockingham County Animal Shelter at 250 Cherokee Camp Road, Reidsville, NC 27320.
