James “Dillard” Gillie, 88, passed away on Wednesday, February 22, 2023.
According to Dillard’s wishes and preplanned arrangements there will be no formal services.
Dillard was born in Rockingham County to the late James Costill “Doc” Gillie and Ella Mae Clifton Gillie. He graduated from Ruffin High School before joining the United States Army where he was a Specialist (SP-4) and was assigned to a Clinic within the Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington D.C. He worked 35 years as a fork lift Operator for Sears and Roebuck. Dillard was a private man, but he loved traveling, going to the coast fishing, and NASCAR racing . Most of all he loved his community, neighbors, and friends, especially his Church Street Station family.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Douglas “Doug” Wayne Gillie.
Dillard is survived by his sister-in-law, Louise S Gillie; several cousins and a loving group of extended family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Happy Home Church at 6941 NC 700, Ruffin NC 27326.
