James Cecil Stone

James Cecil Stone, 89, of 1516 Wolf Island Road, went home to be with his Lord on Sunday, September 27, 2020 at home surrounded by his loving wife, and family. Cecil was always behind the scenes serving others and living his life to make a difference. He was a kind and simple man that loved his family and friends relentlessly. He loved Community Baptist Church and Community Baptist Schools where he passionately served both for many years. Along with his parents, he was also preceded in death by his sister Vergie Griffin and brother Everette Stone. He is survived by his wife June Cobb Stone of 65 years; daughters Joanna Chapmon and husband Dennis and Amy Heston and husband Steve; grandchildren Joshua Chapmon and wife Jeni, Lydia Mitchell and husband Karl, Grace Cale and husband Alton, Rosemary Chapmon, Graham Heston and Daniel Heston and wife Sarah; great grandchildren Judah Chapmon, Noah, Sullivan and Jozi Mitchell, Riah, Samuel and Atalie Cale; sister-in-law India Stone; brother-in-law Johnnie Griffin; and extended family. Not only was Cecil Stone a godly follower of our Lord, but he was so selfless. After God called me to teach at Community Baptist school, I wondered how I would be able to afford a place to stay. A friend suggested asking Cecil if he would rent me the house he owned across the street from his place. Cecil had just finished remodeling it. I thought there is no way I can afford a nice place like that, but Cecil rented it to me for next to nothing. And when I threw a fall party for my 4th grade class at the house, he took us all on a hayride. My students still remember that party and hayride with great fondness. I will always remember his kindness.

My life has been richly blessed to have known Cecil Stone. I worked with him doing many projects in and around Community Baptist School, and it was a pleasure to just be with him accomplishing something good for the students and faculty of CBS. My thoughts and prayers are with each member of this wonderful family. June you to have richly blessed my life, and I will always be thankful for knowing you!
