Irene Dodson Schecter

Irene Dodson Schecter of Arlington, Virginia passed away on June 12, 2026. 

She is survived by her precious daughter Susan A. Schecter, who lovingly cared for her mother during her declining years with Parkinson's disease. She is also survived by her granddaughter Christine Elaine Nall, of Austin, TX, her grandson, Matan Rafael Schecter (and husband Anthony Rocco), of Falls Church, VA, a beloved sister Hilda Dodson Bye (and husband Peter Schuetz), her beloved brother David Lee Dodson of Hoffman, TX, and beloved brother Daniel W. Dodson (and wife Linda Cupp Dodson) of Huntsville, AL, 3 nieces, 5 great nieces, and 2 great nephews. 

She was predeceased by her parents WT and Louise Dodson of Wentworth, NC, her former husband Richard Paul Schecter and grandson David Nall Schecter.

She was a 1958 graduate of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (formerly Women's College). Upon graduation she was employed in the office of the District Solicitor at Greensboro. When Mr. Horace Robinson Kornegay was elected to congress in 1961, she joined him in his congressional office in Washington, D.C. She subsequently served as Legislative and Administrative Assistant to two additional North Carolina congressmen, Richardson Preyer and WG “Bill” Hefner. After retiring from Capitol Hill, she joined the federal marketing firm of Hyjek and Fix in Washington D.C.

She was a member of Cherrydale United Methodist Church where until her declining years she served on the administrative board, as choir member, women's circle member, youth counselor, and wedding director for all church weddings.

Funeral services will be held in the DC area on Monday June 15th at 10:00 am at Fairfax Memorial Funeral Home and in Reidsville, NC on Wednesday June 17th at 10:00 am at Wilkerson Funeral Home. Burial at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Reidsville, NC
