Henry James Douglass died Wednesday, 24 April, 2024 in South Dakota at the age of 87.


The family will celebrate Henry's life by receiving friends, Saturday, May 18, 2024 at Wilkerson Funeral Home from 1:30 - 3:00 PM. There will be a private graveside inurnment Douglas Mill Cemetery in Chesterfield, South Carolina at a later date. 
 
He was involved in a single car accident as he traveled to play in a cribbage tournament in South Dakota that was to begin April 25th.  Henry was an avid cribbage player and was well known in that community nationwide.
 
Henry was a lifelong resident of Reidsville, NC.  Henry graduated from Elon College and was a career schoolteacher in the subject of math at Holmes Junior High in Eden, NC.  He had a love of community and devoted much of his time to the Elks Lodge and its charities, the Salvation Army, the Episcopal/Methodist Annual Thanksgiving Dinner, and in support of Veterans programs in the surrounding area.
 
He is survived by his brother, Charles Reid Douglass (Marlene).  His niece, Lauri Douglass Morton, nephew David Douglass, and nephew Jay Douglass (Claudia), as well as his grand nieces and nephews Zoey Morton, Abigail Morton, Hunter Douglass, Garvin Douglass, JC Douglass, Reid Douglass, Cole Douglass, and numerous cousins.  He was predeceased by his father, Jerome Douglass and mother, Gatha Davis Douglass.
 
Memorials may be made to the Main Street United Methodist Church, PO Box 338, Reidsville, NC 27323, please designate "In support of the the annual Thanksgiving Dinner Mission" or to Elon University School of Education Attn: Donor Relations, 2600 Campus Box, Elon, NC 27244.
