Gracie Virginia Johnson Carroll

Gracie Virginia Johnson Carroll, 97, of Reidsville, passed away on February 18, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on December 30, 1928, to the late Charles Edward and Bessie Alma French Johnson. An only child, she was born and raised in Reidsville and attended Ruffin High School.

On April 1, 1945, she married the love of her life, Allen Carroll. Together they shared a beautiful marriage and celebrated their 79th wedding anniversary in 2024. Virginia was employed by American Tobacco Company for thirty-eight years, retiring in 1985. During her time there, she worked as a machine operator and timekeeper.

She is survived by her daughter, Doris Renee Manley (Hal); her sons, Robert Allen Carroll II (Laurie) and Edward Hunter Carroll (Lynn); her eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many dear cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband and one granddaughter.

Virginia was a lifelong member of Greenwood Presbyterian Church. She was a talented seamstress and a wonderful cook who kept her family excited for “Mama’s good cooking.” Family favorites included her pound cake and pecan pie. She enjoyed playing games, canning and preserving vegetables from the garden, reading, and traveling. She and Allen traveled to all fifty United States and enjoyed a twenty-one-day guided tour of Europe.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, February 22, 2026, from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m., with the funeral service beginning at 3:00 p.m. in the Wilkerson Funeral Home chapel. Interment will follow at Dan River Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, 8684 Highway 700, Ruffin, NC 27326.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Greenwood Presbyterian Church, 618 Narrow Gauge Road, Reidsville, NC 27320, or to Hospice of Rockingham County.
