Dad and Mom were introduced by mutual friends. After dating, they were married on October 19, 1957. They both wanted a big family and were blessed with 4 children that included 3 daughters and 1 son. They were married for 67 years and the love they shared was immeasurable. They both were very proud of the family that they had built.
Gladys was born on July 1, 1936, to the late George and Marie Greene. She worked at Lorillard for 39 years where she later retired. After retirement, she loved camping and going to the beach. She would also help her son at the family restaurant mingling with all the customers. Gladys loved animals, especially her cat Sammy. She spent most of her time with her family and enjoyed telling stories and playing games with her grandchildren. She had played basketball in high school, and she continued to follow the love of the game by watching her favorite team, the Carolina Tar Heels. Her favorite singers were Elvis Presley and Keith Urban, and Billy Graham was her favorite evangelist. She was very artistic, loved to draw, and handed down this attribute to her children and grandchildren.
Bill was born on April 7, 1937, in Pittsylvania County, Virginia, to the late Thomas and Lillie Bell Loftis. He was a man who loved to work hard for his family and he held many job titles which included a truck driver with InterCity Company as a bulk mail carrier, ran/managed George's House Restaurant, and was also a pastor at Lake Townsend Baptist Church for over 30 years. He was a man who enjoyed the outdoors and his hobbies included fishing, camping, golf, making homemade peanut butter ice cream, and family Brunswick stews. Throughout his life he enjoyed working with his hands and that included woodworking and building things. Bill was involved in all church activities and he had a passion for music including writing songs and singing for the Lord.
After retirement, Dad and Mom spent most of their weekends camping at Reidsville Lake and Hagan Stone. In their later years, they enjoyed spending time together sitting on their front porch watching cars go by, competing with each other on what color car would pass the most frequently. They loved staying up late together watching Family Feud nightly and RFDTV on Saturday nights.
