New Bern, NC:   Gerald Allen Canady, 63, of 1618 Concord Street, died at Craven Regional Medical Center in New Bern, NC, Sunday, May 18, 2008. Memorial services will be held 2:00 PM on Saturday, June 14, 2008, at Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mike Hooper officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home. Gerry was a native of Rockingham County and was born to the late George Allen and Ruth McKinnon Canady. He graduated from Reidsville Senior High School where he was recognized by his piers as the most lovable. His passion was basketball and friendships. His best friends were Sandy Sands, Clay Warf, Mike Hooper, Henry Link and Richard Springs. Gerry found his career in the Military serving 26 years in the US Air Force. He retired as a Senior Master Sergeant. He was active during the Vietnam Conflict and the Gulf War, finishing his career with Operation Desert Storm, retiring in 1993. He married his true love, Carolyn Faye Vaughn on January 1, 1966. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Carolyn Vaughn Canady. Gerry is survived by his son, Scott Allen Canady; sister-in-law, Dura Vaughn Bockbrader and husband, Ernest of Hampstead, NC (formerly of Reidsville) and many beloved cousins.
