George Ronald Tate Sr., 77 of Reidsville, NC, went home to be with the Lord on Friday December 5, 2025.
Born on May 1, 1948, George was the son of the late Harry Robert Tate and Nellie Jarrell Tate. Raised in Rockingham County, he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother who cherished his family above all else.
George Proudly served his country in Vietnam as a member of the 82 Airborne Division, a role he carried out with courage, loyalty and deep patriotism. Following his military service, he built a long and dedicated career with Cooper Electric, where he worked faithfully for 43 years before retiring.
George had a deep passion for fishing, and he loved NASCAR racing- a love that began in his younger years watching his brother, Monk Tate, race. Some of George’s happiest moments were spent by the water or enjoying a good race, sharing stories, laughter and a quiet peace with those he loved.
He is survived by his wife, Cindy East Tate; his son, Ronnie Tate; his stepdaughter, Sharley (Adam) Honeycutt; and his sister, Bessie Sparks. He is also survived by his stepbrother, Wayne Tate (Betty) and his stepsister, Glenda Gunn (Starling). George was a proud grandfather to Tyler (Hannah) Tate, Sadie Honeycutt, and Caleb Honeycutt; and beloved great-grandfather to Claire Tate and Lainey Tate.
In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his brothers Robert Tate, Cecil Tate, Dewey Tate, and John “Monk” Dillard Tate; his sisters Lorene Lawrence, Elaine Smith, and Debra Boulding; and his stepsister, Betty Carol Ellington.
Visitation will be held on Thursday at 1:00 PM at Wilkerson Funeral Home, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by Pastor Noah Hooper. Committal will follow the service at Dan River Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. Family and friends will gather to honor his life, remember his legacy, and celebrate the love he shared with so many.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to all who have offered prayers, support and kindness during this time.
