Fletcher Dennis Walters, 86, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 27, 2025. A graveside service will be held at Evergreen Memory Garden on Friday, October 3, 2025, at 11:00 AM with Dr. Lance Cole officiating.
Dennis was born in Rockingham County to the late Marion Donald Walters and Mary Ozie Vernon Walters. He was a devoted husband, and father and an active member of the First Baptist Church. He stood by his wife’s side carrying for her during a long illness and helped raise his first grandchild. He had a deep love for history and was an active member of the Rockingham County Historical Society. He helped restore the Wright Tavern, and establish the County History Museum.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by, his wife and the mother of his children, Linda Dixon Walters.
Dennis is survived by his sons, Fletcher Dennis Walters Jr. and Mark Steven Walters; grandchildren, Fletcher Dennis Walters III (Heather), Nathalie Walters (Everette); great grandson, Grayson as well as a loving group of extended family and friends.
