Reidsville-Elmer Batten Moore, Jr., 78, passed away October 9, 2011 at his home in Durham.Funeral Services celebrating his life will be held 2:00PM Sunday October 16, 2011 at Hall-Wynne Funeral Home Chapel in Durham. A native of Rockingham County, he was the son of the late Vera Hutcherson and Elmer B. Moore, Sr. He went to the University of Miami on a music scholarship to be an understudy of Jussi Bjorling, with the Miami Opera Company. He served his country during Korean Conflict as a veteran of the US Army. "E.B." served with a Special Regiment that entertained the troops. He graduated from the American Conservatory of Music of Chicago with a Master's degree in Voice in connection with Northwestern University, Evanston, IL. He was the main tenor for the Chicago Opera for a number of years. He worked at Matt Igler's Casino and Restaurant in Chicago for many years as a singing waiter. He was a Mason and also a member of Rosicrucian Order, AMORC. Survivors include his daughter Janice Valerie Moore-Stone and Christopher Stone of Statesville; granddaughter Gabrielle S. Stone of Statesville; sister, Gwynn Moore of Durham, Marie Howren of Durham, and LaVerne Tuttle of Skokie, Illinois; several nieces and nephews. Memorials are asked to be directed to the Masonic and Eastern Star Home in New York.
