Elizabeth “Betty” Jane Thornburg Fowler, 83, of Reidsville, began her life on earth July 10, 1943, and entered heaven Tuesday, September 15, 2026.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 19, 2026, at Fairview Baptist Church, with Reverend Heath Lloyd officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service and at other times at the home.
Betty was born in Morgantown, West Virginia, to the late James Arthur Thornburg and Hulda Jane Ash Thornburg. She loved the mountains of West Virginia, where her faith took root at an early age and she was baptized in the waters of a mountain creek. Over the years, she made her home in Ohio, Georgia, and North Carolina. Betty worked as a fabric technician at the Cone Mills fabric plant in White Oak for approximately 30 years before retiring due to illness. She was a member of Fairview Baptist Church for more than 40 years and considered the church her second family. She especially treasured the sermons of Reverend Heath Lloyd, as well as the music, fellowship, and friendships she found there.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Eddie Thornburg and James Thornburg.
Betty is survived by her children, Billy J. Strawser of Archdale, Cindy Adams of Reidsville, Mary Jane Chesney of Dilliner, Pennsylvania, Peggy Sue Russell of Morgantown, West Virginia, and Judy Lynn Barnes of Reidsville, who faithfully remained by her side until the end; brothers, Richard Thornburg of Stokesdale, and David Thornburg of Rome, Georgia; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
