Edwin "Ned" Griffith Stephens, Jr., 88, passed into the presence of his Lord in the early hours of Wednesday, April 29, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of faith and family.
Born in Buffalo, New York, to the late Edwin Griffith Stephens, Sr. and Vivian Goodwin Stephens, Ned came to faith in Jesus Christ while attending Lehigh University in Pennsylvania. He later joined the Army, and was stationed in Germany where he served the country as a radio operator and the Lord as a Bible study leader.
Upon returning from the military, he moved to New Jersey and attended Central Bible Chapel, where he met and married his beloved wife, Beth, and served as a Sunday School teacher, youth group leader, treasurer, and elder.
No matter the job he held or the role in which he served, Ned's heart was always on sharing the justice and mercy of God and the deep riches of His Word. He found great joy in the simple fellowship of life — from leading youth trips to Bear Mountain to holding deep spiritual discussions with friends to hosting the annual Fourth of July barbecue that brought so many together.
After retiring from a 25-year career as a Field Engineer with Kodak in 1999, he and his family settled in Reidsville, North Carolina. There, he and Beth became active members of Reidsville Bible Chapel and dedicated many years to leading a YMCA after-school Bible program at Williamsburg Elementary School.
Ned was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Stanley “Stan” Stephens.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Elizabeth “Beth” Stephens; his children, Tim Stephens, Dan Stephens (Michelle), Mark Stephens, Kristen Kovach (Bert), and Karen Flego (Roland); and a large, loving family of grandchildren: Elizabeth, Alexandra, Edwin, April, Isabella, Isaiah, Eva, and Christopher Stephens; Cadence and Lance Hash, Vincent Kovach, Vivian and Gianna Flego; and his great-grandchild, Dominic Stephens.
A memorial service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, June 6, 2026 at Reidsville Bible Chapel in Reidsville, NC.
