Dreama Lintecum Kennon of Reidsville, NC, went to join the Lord on Thursday, April 30, 2026, at the age of 69. Born on September 15, 1956, in Carroll County, Virginia, she was the daughter of Jessie Price Lintecum and Helen W. Barnes.
Dreama was a mother, sister, friend, and was kind to everyone she met. Along with all of that, she was a hard worker. She held many labor-intensive jobs in steel mills, textile services, and lumber manufacturing, often working her way up to supervisor positions due to her strong work ethic and her ability to connect with others and bring a team together. She made friends everywhere she went because of her willingness to help anyone, even when she had little for herself.
Dreama was very proud of her father Jessie’s service in the military during World War II and sought to model her hardworking mentality after him. She considered herself a “daddy’s girl,” while also deeply adoring her mother Helen, whom she cared for and looked after until her final days. She credited her mother for her kindness and her determination to never give up.
Her older sister, Brenda Sue Lintecum, who preceded her in death, was also a significant influence on her life and upbringing.
Dreama had a profound love for animals and cared for a wide variety of them throughout her life. She had horses during her youth and even won awards for her riding, which she was very proud of. She also received recognition from the ASPCA for her exceptional efforts in rescuing and caring for animals, fostering and raising many throughout her life.
She is survived by her son, Michael Kennon; her brothers, Richard Lintecum and Anthony Barnes; and a sister-like companion, Angela Barnes.
Dreama fought a hard battle with Stage IV cancer, which originated in her lungs and later metastasized to her right arm, brain, and spine, eventually leaving her paralyzed from the waist down. Over time, her ability to move without pain diminished as she lost basic functions. She was later diagnosed with congestive heart failure and diverticulitis.
Her son Michael cared for her throughout her journey, alongside the support of her brothers Richard and Tony, Angela and her son Ricky, and her friends Janet Rakestraw and Susan Massey from Calvary Baptist Church, all of whom were with her on her final day. She was also grateful for the support of her friend Jeanie Francis Hayes, a cancer survivor.
Not once during her fight did she complain, blame the world, or give up. She remained strong in her faith and was determined to endure as long as she could. Despite the many challenges she faced throughout her life, even before her illness, she remained a beacon of positivity and determination.
Her son Michael shared these words:
“Rest in peace, Mom. Truly my best friend and one of the strongest people I know.
The only reason I am a decent human being is because of you and the compassion you showed to every person and creature.
The only positive thing I can take from this is that you are no longer suffering or being unjustly treated by the world you wanted to help. I am thankful I was there at the end, just as you were always there for me.
I love you forever. I will take care of your dogs along with mine, continue to be kind to everyone I meet as you did, and strive to be even half as strong as you.”
