Crystal Wayne Kennon Denton, 49, of Martinsville, VA passed away on Sunday, June 28, 2026.

A graveside funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, July 2, 2026, at Greenview Cemetery with Frankie Reeves and Doug Bray officiating.

Crystal was born in Rockingham County to Patricia Reynolds Kennon and the late John Wayne Kennon. She graduated from Magna Vista High School, where she was active in both volleyball and soccer, before earning an associate’s degree in early childhood education from Patrick & Henry Community College. Following graduation, Crystal worked for five years at Terri's Tots in Martinsville, Virginia, and later served as office manager for Dr. James McKay's medical practice.

At the age of 26, Crystal's life changed dramatically when she sustained a traumatic brain injury in an automobile accident, preventing her from continuing her career. Despite the challenges she faced, she remained a woman of deep faith. She was a devoted member of Peaceful Baptist Church in Danville, Virginia, where her father served as pastor. She found great joy in teaching Sunday School and singing in the church choir.

Crystal's greatest love was her daughter, Sarah, who was truly the center of her world. In recent years, she especially treasured FaceTime visits with Sarah and her beloved granddogs, Benson, Brody, Maisie, Millie, and the late Riley. She also loved playing Bingo, where she was known as a true master of the game, and her quick wit and playful sense of humor made her a cherished jokester among family and friends.

In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her sister, Cynthia Kay Kennon.

She is survived by her daughter, Sarah Cassell and husband, Bryan; granddogs, Benson, Brody, Maisie, Millie, and the late Riley; mother, Patricia Kennon; sisters, Gayle Jackson and husband, Joe, Faye Bray and husband, Doug; nephews, Jacob Jackson, Addam Bray, and Jasper Bray; nieces, Katelynn Williams and Everlee Bray.

The family requests that donations be made to Wilkerson Funeral Home to assist with funeral expenses.
