Charles Ralph “Mac” McCarter passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 22, 2025.
A funeral service will be held at Ruffin-Stacey Baptist Church on Thursday, June 26, 2025, at 11:00 A.M. with his son-in-law Rev. Terry Larsen officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. The committal will follow the service at Clyde Gilmore Memorial Park.
Mac was born in Robbinsville, NC to the late, Clifford Tony McCarter and Eugenia Francis Blevins McCarter.
He was a graduate of Blue Eye High School in Blue Eye, Missouri and proceeded to enlist in the United States Navy where he served for 22 years. During that time, he served in the Vietnam and Korean wars, receiving the Vietnam Service Medal with 3 bronze stars and the Vietnam Civil Actions Medal with Palm. He rose to the rank of Senior Chief working such occupations as a Flight Engineer, Systems Organizational Maintenance Technician and Aircraft Mechanic. After retiring from the US Navy, he and his family moved to Middletown, Virginia where he worked and retired from the United States Postal Service. At Faith Baptist Church in Milton, Florida he was saved. He followed the Lord in baptism alongside his daughter and son, Donna and Mike. In his free time, he loved politics and sports, especially the Arizona Cardinals and North Carolina Tar Heels. Affectionately known as “Papa”, he also loved hunting and fishing, and will always be remembered for his quick wit, kindness, and generosity.
Along with his parents, Charles is preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years, Bertie Marie Herbaugh McCarter; son, Michael J. McCarter; siblings, Reva, Ruby Dell, Conda Sue, and Ross.
Mac is survived by his daughter, Donna M Larsen (Terry); grandchildren, Jacob, Jeremy and Julie (Jay); great grandchildren, Taylor and Kinsley; siblings, David (Reba), and Barbara, along with a large and loving group of extended family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his honor to the American Legion Post 007 at 703 Watson St., Reidsville, NC 27320 or Ancora Compassionate care at PO Box 281, Wentworth, NC 27375.
