Charles David Conner

“Sonny” C. David Conner, 76, of Wentworth passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, March 8, 2023.

A memorial service will be held at Calvary Baptist Church on Saturday, March 11, 2023 at 3:00 P.M. with Dr. Travis McGuirt and Dr. Ron Boswell officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

Sonny was born in Rockingham County to the late Harry Lee and Florence Cole Conner.

Sonny was a graduate of Wentworth High School.  He retired from American Tobacco Co and Lorillard. He was a lifelong member of Calvary Baptist Church, attending until his declining health. A U S Army Veteran and receiving his draft notice two weeks after being married and serving with his support unit, during the Viet Nam conflict.  He was a founding and Charter member of the Wentworth Volunteer Fire Department and known by other departments at his time of service for the Best “Pump” operator around. Sonny also had a Love and deep compassion for horses and any kind of auto races. He enjoyed camping with his wife and friends while attending races.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Evelyn Lewis Conner; son, Jeffrey D Conner and wife, Mary; grandson, Cole L Conner; sister, Jean C Varner; brother, Keith L Conner (Melissa), numerous nieces, nephews, and a large group of friends and extended family.

The family would like to thank, Hospice of Rockingham County for their care and concern for Sonny, allowing him to spend his final days in the comfort of his home. Thanks also to our “Calvary” family. How do people go through trials without their Loving “Church Family”
