Carolyn Huneycutt Basham

Carolyn Huneycutt Basham, 93, passed away peacefully at Brookridge Retirement Community on Tuesday, April 18, 2023.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, April 21, 2023, at Glencoe United Methodist Church with Rev. Matthew Johnson and Rev. Dr. Jim Nelson officiating. The burial will follow the service at Glencoe United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Carolyn was born in Cumberland County to the late William Jerome Huneycutt and Jessie Sims Huneycutt. She was a graduate of Flora MacDonald Women’s College where she majored in Accounting and Music. She played the Organ and directed the choir at Mainstreet Methodist Church in Reidsville, NC and Muirs Chapel in Greensboro, NC. Carolyn was a faithful member of Glencoe United Methodist Church. She worked for Sears, the Employment Security Commission and finished her career working for the IRS.  She was an avid reader and fiercely intelligent. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Curtis William Basham and sisters, Melicent Huneycutt- Vergeer and Margaret “ Margie” Huneycutt.

Carolyn is survived by her brother, Jerome Huneycutt; sisters-in-law, Virginia Basham Holmes, Eunice Basham Massey and Sarah Basham McCleney as well as a large and loving group of extended family and friends.

The family wishes to extend special thanks to the Brookridge Retirement Community for their loving care of Carolyn and Curtis in their time of need.
